Just Another Gallery Wall

If there's one design element people can't move away from, it would have to be the gallery wall. Big or small, or somewhere in between, creating a gallery with your favourite photos or art pieces can instantly elevate your style in any space. So keeping this in mind, I did just that. I created a second gallery wall with some really cool frames.  It's one of my absolute faves!

It's taken some time, but we're slowly working on one project at time and filling our blank walls. Over the years, we've acquired a number of art prints and photographs from our many exotic trips and adventures. Some we've framed and displayed, (more to come on that!) and then there are others that are still in boxes in the basement.  It's a work in progress...just like everything else!

The large blank wall leading up to our master bedroom was something I wanted to fill with family photos, but I just couldn't find the perfect frames, let alone decide on what pictures I want to display.

When I first saw these gold wired prisma frames by Umbra and these fotochain photo frames (try saying that 3x!) also by Umbra I knew I had to have them. I didn't know what I was going to do with them, but I knew I wanted them. They were exactly what I needed to dress up my blank canvas!

They come in various sizes and it's super easy to change the pictures whenever I want. The wheels were spinning in my head! I came home and measured the wall space and took note of what I would needed. I ended up buying all of them in various sizes and creating a design that worked well in this space. Next up, fill the frames!

Fresh Flowers

Gorgeous and full flower arrangements inject colour, sophistication, and polish into every home. It brings life to your table and home décor, but who has the funds to have custom arrangements delivered every week? I certainly don't! Looking for an inexpensive option? Then keep reading!

Everyday grocery store flowers may not look like an appealing option when you see them in their plastic bins and buckets in the back of the store...but truth be told, ALL my flowers are from my local Sobeys grocery store! I make my weekly visit every Sunday, and hand pick my flowers. I simply love making my own floral arrangements. It's relaxing and always brings a smile to my face as I walk by flowers...it's these little things that bring me small joys... #thehappynow !

With a few tweaks and tricks, a pre-made bouquet or bundle of single-variety buds can be transformed into a gorgeous custom arrangement.

Handmade Candles in the #613

Having good taste in candles might not seem like a big deal- but when you walk into someone's home who does, you know it! You instantly wish that your home smelled and felt just as inviting as theirs. It's no secret that decorating my home to match my eclectic style is very important to me. But making sure my home smells heavenly and creating a cozy living space is equally important.

When I came across these cute handmade candles by Blackett & Co., I was more than smitten! Not only is the packaging super cute, clean and simple, but each candle is handmade in Ottawa (#support613). I met up with local maker Kristy Hesketh a few weeks ago to get the DL on these natural soy candles.

These hand poured candles are made from eco-friendly soy wax that's carefully produced through sustainable agriculture. Kristy also only uses eco-friendly lead-free cotton wicks in each candle. It's all so fresh and so clean! Blackett & Co. currently has four scents in their core collection which you can find here.

The newest fall collection includes All Spice {cinnamon, nutmeg and clove} and
Kitchen Witch {hazelnut, vanilla and clove}.

I keep candles in almost every room of my house. The combination of glowing candlelight infused with thoughtfully blended scents will make any home feel warm and inviting! Since I've received these two fall editions, the house has been smelling delicious!

Can you smell the goodness after reading this post? I suggest you support this new local business STAT!

Capital Style Files: Ottawa's Fashionable TV Series

Earlier this week I was invited to attend the launch party for Capital Style Files, Ottawa's newest fashion television series! That's right people, our Nation's Capital is getting a bit more stylish this fall.

After being sick with the flu for a over a week, I had to bow out of this event. I just didn't have the energy to get all dolled up. Sadly I had to miss it. However, I did follow along on social media and I felt like I was there. Thanks to all the talented local bloggers for your insta/snapchat stories!

More about the show...

Local Ottawa blogger/producer Katrina Turnbull from Oui C'est Chic has partnered with Bell Media to highlight Ottawa's unique and up and coming fashion scene. In the show, Katrina takes you on the red carpet and behind the scenes for a look at Ottawa's most stylish citizens and fashion influencers.

From gala functions to the hottest most exclusive events in the #613, viewers get a glimpse into the city's fashion industry. It's about time we put our city on the map showcasing local designers and boutiques, and all of the people who are making Ottawa a fashion capital.

The pre-screening event included highlights from the first three episodes which you can catch here. In the first three episodes, Katrina interviews locals such as fashion editor Alexandra Gunn; creative event planner, Tami Varma; and fashion blogger Dominique Baker.

School Keepsake Storage System- Control the CHAOS!

And just like that, summer break is almost over. Like every year, we do our very best to savor every minute of our wonderful summer days, but as usual it just flies by and it's already September.

I don't know about you guys, but just like spring cleaning, I tend to go through this organization kick around the #glimpse3sixtyhome. It's the best time to get your house in order especially when you have kids. The back to school prep work requires new clothes, shoes, supplies and...you know how it goes. Out with old, in with the new!

While school may have already started for some kids, the back to school session will be in full force for most parts starting next week. Since we have less than a week to get organized, I decided to tackle all of BiG Z's school papers we've collected over the last school year. Today I'll be sharing my school keepsake storage system with all of you.

I was so good last year for the first few months. I kept the important stuff and tossed the rest in the recycle bin when the boy wasn't looking. As the months progressed I got lazy and ended up with piles and piles of papers!

I created a keepsake box for BiG Z when he started Montessori in 2013 and it's been the perfect system to keep the important stuff and toss the rest. Starting next week I'm sure our kids will be coming home with lots of "treasures" artwork, papers, pictures....you get the idea.

It's so easy and simple guys. When you have kids you know the gazillion piles of "treasures" keep growing and it can be hard to stay organized. It's essential to start a system that's easy to maintain. I use this plastic bin I found at Home Depot to organize BiG Z's treasures. It's the perfect size and large enough to hold years of keepsakes. I've made space for it on his shelf right in the closet. These bins are stackable too.

I use hanging folders and my trusty label maker to create dividers for the bin. I've organized his keepsake box by creating categories (these are not in any particular order):

- Birthday cards (I like to keep one of Z's birthday invitations from each of his parties. Most of his  cards are custom made by me!)
- Certificates
- Montessori (Years 1-3)
- Certificates
- Misc.
- Awards
- Artwork

Since BiG Z starting first grade next week, I'll be creating more labels to add to the bin (first grade, second grade, and so on...). You can add as many categories as you'd like.

One last tip: for all of Z's larger art projects, I've started taking pictures of them. I've created a folder on laptop for Zaidan. I save the pic with the name and date of school year. I print the pic and add it to the keepsake box. My basement was overflowing with dinosaur dioramas and large paintings! Now I can toss the art and keep the pic.

HAPPY ORGANIZING!
